Editing, proofreading and LQA

  • Editing

Editing is a detailed review of a translation against the source text. The reviewer checks meaning, terminology, language, consistency and style and makes the necessary corrections.

  • Proofreading

Proofreading is usually the final language check before publication or delivery. It focuses on spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting and other visible errors.

  • Linguistic quality assurance

LQA is a structured quality review. The content is checked against agreed criteria, and issues can be recorded by category and severity when the project requires formal quality reporting.

Quality checks

What we check

  • Accuracy

Whether the translation communicates the meaning of the source correctly and completely.

  • Terminology

Whether approved and subject-specific terms are used correctly and consistently.

  • Grammar & language

Grammar, spelling, punctuation, readability and natural phrasing.

  • Style

Whether the wording follows the agreed tone, audience and style guide.

  • Consistency

Repeated terms, names, numbers and wording across the content.

  • Formatting & technical elements

Numbers, tags, placeholders, links, punctuation and other elements that must remain correct.

How we work

From review brief to final file

  1. 01

    Review setup

We confirm the languages, files, source material and the type of review you need. We also collect any terminology, style guide or previous approved translations.

  2. 02

    Linguistic review

A professional linguist reviews the content against the agreed requirements and makes or records corrections.

  3. 03

    Queries & feedback

If the reviewer finds unclear source text, terminology questions or issues that need a client decision, these can be collected and sent for clarification.

  4. 04

    Final QA

The agreed corrections are checked and the final file or quality report is prepared for delivery.

Structured LQA

When you need a quality report

Some projects require more than corrected text. We can record linguistic issues in a structured review file so that the client can see what was found and how serious each issue is.

  • Error categories

Issues can be grouped by type, such as accuracy, terminology, language, style or formatting.

  • Severity

Where required, issues can also be classified by severity according to the project’s agreed QA model.

  • Comments

Reviewers can explain the reason for a correction when the client or original translator needs clear feedback.

  • Final results

The review can be delivered as corrected content, an LQA report or both.

Your workflow

Review in your existing setup

We can work with files supplied for review or, where access is available, within the client’s existing localization process. Translation memories, terminology and style guides can be used during the review.

  • CAT & TMS projects

Review can be carried out within the project environment when access and workflow allow it.

  • Bilingual files

Source and translation can be reviewed side by side in supported bilingual formats.

  • Documents & spreadsheets

Word, Excel and other working files can be reviewed directly where appropriate.

  • Client QA forms

We can follow an existing client review form, error model or feedback process.
